Frankston City Council the next to sign up to become small business friendly

Small businesses in the Frankston City community will receive greater council support, with Frankston City Council set to become small business friendly.

Delivered by the Victorian Small Business Commission, the Small Business Friendly Council initiative aims to make it easier for Victorians to start and run their businesses.

Victorian Small Business Commissioner Judy O’Connell will visit Frankston City Council on 30 July to meet with Mayor Cr Michael O’Reilly and CEO Phil Cantillon for the signing of the initiative’s Charter.

By signing, Frankston City Council is committing to pay small businesses within 30 days, help limit disruptions caused by infrastructure projects and work towards faster permit approvals for people starting a small business.

With more than 10,000 registered businesses in the area standing to benefit from the council’s commitment, Mayor Michael O’Reilly is pleased to be signing up.

“We’re looking forward to working collaboratively to strengthen support for our local small businesses, which are an integral part of the Frankston City community,” Cr O’Reilly said.

This commitment reinforces other programs to support small business already implemented by Frankston City Council, including its business grants program, Mumprenuers workshop series, online learning portal and Invest Frankston campaign, and its participation in the Better Approvals Project.

Commissioner Judy O’Connell said it was great news to have Frankston City Council come on board.

“It really does demonstrate their want to create an environment for small business that’s supportive, competitive and fair,” Commissioner O’Connell said.

In signing up, Frankston City Council follows City of Casey, Wyndham City, Yarra Ranges Council, City of Kingston, Mount Alexander Shire, Gannawarra Shire, City of Wodonga, Latrobe City Council, Baw Baw Shire Council, Corangamite Shire, Northern Grampians Shire Council, Glen Eira City Council and City of Yarra.
