For media
The Victorian Small Business Commission (VSBC) is an independent government agency that advocates on issues affecting people in small business, raises awareness of their rights and responsibilities, and helps them to avoid or resolve disputes.
The VSBC can help with business-to-business disputes, business-to-government disputes, farm debt mediation, freight and goods owner drivers and franchising disputes.
Media relations
We aim to manage media enquiries as promptly and thoroughly as possible. We respond to requests and enquiries during business hours. Journalists are asked to provide us with:
- details of their request
- their contact details
- the media outlet
- their deadline.
How we work with the media
The authorised spokesperson for VSBC is Commissioner Lynda McAlary-Smith.
The Commissioner can provide media comment on topics such as:
- resolving or preventing retail leasing and small business disputes
- supporting small businesses during infrastructure projects
- paying small businesses on time
- how small business owners can look after their mental health and wellbeing.
The VSBC is unable to comment on the specifics of individual disputes raised with our office or on matters of government policy. We can provide more general comment on how the VSBC works, with the aim of improving understanding among small businesses and their intermediaries.
